Founder, Sports Medicine Institute of Indiana - Board-Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon

Franklin D. Wilson, MD founded Sports Medicine Institute of Indiana in 1991 and has practiced orthopedic surgery for more than 27 years.  Dr. Wilson is Board-Certified by both the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons with a sub-specialty in Sports Medicine.  He specializes in orthopaedic surgery and sports medicine, with expertise in arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder and knee. 

Dr. Wilson earned his Medical Degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in Bloomington, IN, where he played basketball on the Big 10 All-Star Team and was coached by Bob Knight.  He completed an Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at Indiana University.  Dr. Wilson Fellowship Trained in Sports Medicine with Dr. James Andrews, one of the World’s foremost experts in Sports Medicine, at Hughston Orthopaedic Clinic in Columbus, GA.

Dr. Wilson is a recognized authority in the field of sports medicine.  He serves as a consultant to the United States Olympic Committee and as a Neutral Physician to the National Football League.  Dr. Wilson is a national presenter and his research is published in peer reviewed journals. 

Dr. Wilson is professionally affiliated with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, American Arthroscopy Association of North America, Indiana State Medical Association, Hughston Society, and American Sports Medicine Fellowship Society.

Dr. Wilson is active in his community church and enjoys spending time with his family.  He is an avid golfer and skier.

Louis J. Angelicchio, MD is Board Certified in Orthopaedic Surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.  Dr. Angelicchio has practiced orthopaedic surgery for more than 24 years.  He specializes in orthopedic surgery with a practice focus on arthroscopic surgery of the knee and shoulder.  Dr. Angelicchio has a special interest in arthroscopy, occupational injuries, and shoulder, knee, and ankle disorders.

Dr. Angelicchio earned his Medical Degree from Indiana University School of Medicine.  He completed his Residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Indiana University.

Dr. Angelicchio is a frequently requested guest speaker about occupational medicine.  He regularly consults with local industries about the prevention, management, and treatment of work-related injuries. 

Dr. Angelicchio is professionally affiliated with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Indiana State Medical Association, American Medical Association, and American College of Sports Medicine. 

Dr. Angelicchio was born and raised in Indiana.  He enjoys playing golf, working out, reading, and spending time with his family.

Andrew H. Combs, MD

Board-Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon

Andrew H. Combs, MD is Board Certified in Orthopaedic Surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, specializing in hand and upper extremity injuries. He joined the Sports Medicine Institute on a part time basis in 1991 and full time in 2001. Dr. Combs specializes in arthroscopy, fractures, occupational injuries and joint replacements of the upper extremities.

Dr. Combs earned his Medical Degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in Bloomington, IN.  He completed a Residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Indiana University and Fellowship in Hand and Upper Extremity Trauma at Baylor College in Houston, TX. 

Dr. Combs is professionally affiliated with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Indiana State Medical Association, and American Medical Association.

Dr. Combs has done medical missionary work in Haiti, Honduras, and Africa.  He is also actively involved in his own community. His interests include biking, jogging, skiing, and home remodeling.
